Stevie Lake is the unsinkable unstoppable clown and prankster of the Saddle Club. She abandoned her given name of Stephanie almost before she could talk and was always a bit of a tomboy. Now, tiring of being one of the boys, but uncomfortable with the preening of other girls her age, Stevie clings to the one thing that remains constant – her love of horses.
Stevie is impulsive, irrepressible and stubborn and once she devises a scheme there is no chance of talking her out of it. Her ‘act now, think later’ approach to life often gets her into trouble but, when she enters the show ring, she becomes another person.
Stevie’s parents, George and Catherine, are both lawyers with hectic schedules. They both worked hard for everything they achieved and are determined to instill a solid work ethic in their children. They have agreed to pay for one riding lesson a week but Stevie must work at the stables in exchange for additional lessons.
Stevie is tomboyish and practices practical jokes so much because her three brothers have driven her more sensitive side underground. She does not think things through and will embark on some impetuous, hare-brained scheme, sucking Carole and Lisa into it on the way through, and when everything gets out of hand, it is her two friends who have to bail everybody out of the mess. But Stevie is irrepressible and unflappable and moves straight onto the next scheme/caper, leaving Carole and Lisa preparing for the worst again. Mind you, they don’t mind her pranks too much if Veronica is the target, as she often is.
Lauren Dixon (age 12) lives in Haliburton (ON) Canada with her family and three pet Schnauzers. Lauren comes from a musical family. Her father is Carl Dixon of Guess Who and April Wine fame. She’s appeared in a number of theatre productions, including Sandy in Grease, Annie and The Jungle Book. An avid dancer she’s won several medals in dance competitions. For television, she appeared in The Dream Catcher as Sophie.
While Lauren’s favorite all-time school subject is creative writing she also loves music, hip-hop, collecting snow globes and practicing magic tricks. She had done some riding before filming the series, but now wants to have her own horse and keep riding. “I have been delighted, frightened and absolutely amazed at the magic of horse riding.”
Talking about her Saddle Club experience, she says: “Lots of fun! It’s such an honour to be part of this production.”
Her one wish for the world: “I wish that we could deal with global warming. It’s everyone’s problem and it’s not going down without a fight.”
Favorite Saddle Club horse: Belle
I think Stevie is the kind of girl that doesn’t care about the way people view her. Though sometimes it can get her into trouble, she always seems to find a way out ofit. I also think that she is friends with Lisa because she is the ultimate girly girl, which is refreshing after a day of rough riding and mischief.
The Saddle Club™ series stars three heroines, Stevie, Carole and Lisa, who form The Saddle Club™ at the Pine Hollow Stables. Each character has a distinctly different personality but all share an equal love of horses and a strong loyalty to each other.
