Stevie Lake

Stevie Lake abandoned her given name of Stephanie almost before she could talk and was always a bit of a tomboy. Now, tired of being considered one of the boys, but uncomfortable with the preening of other girls her age, Stevie clings to the one thing that remains constant – her love of horses. When not dressed for the riding ring, Stevie has a funky, urban style of her own.

Stevie is impulsive, irrepressible and stubborn and once she devises a scheme there is no chance of talking her out of it. Her ‘act now, think later’ approach to life gets her into trouble but, when she enters the show ring, she becomes another person.

Stevie’s parents, George and Catherine, are both lawyers with hectic schedules. They both worked hard for everything they achieved and are determined to instill a solid work ethic in their children. They have agreed to pay for one riding lesson a week but Stevie must work at the stables in exchange for additional lessons.

Stevie and Phil’s relationship starts to play a major part of this series, but are they destined to be girlfriend and boyfriend?

Sophie Bennett ( Plays Stevie )

It was quite a family affair when Sophie recently played a starring role in The Salem Witch Trials, a TV mini-series for NBC. Brother Zachary (22) and sister Mairon (26) were also cast in lead roles. The series gave Sophie a chance to work with some internationally acclaimed actors, including Sir Peter Ustinov, Alan Bates, Shirley Maclaine and Kirstie Alley. Sophie, who played one of the afflicted girls, had a powerful scene with Sir Peter when the horrible character he plays burnt the arm of the little girl she lives with. But with his indomitable charm and empathy, he would tell the girls funny stories and jokes between takes, and ensure they were coping well with the heavy drama.

As she has been in the business all her life, doing her first commercial as a baby, Sophie is practiced at throwing herself wholly into a role, then putting it aside and turning off once the scene is done. “Acting is something I really love and in my family, it’s the norm. I have a brother who is a director, a brother and sister who are actors and my mother was an actor and is now a writer,” Sophie tells us.

Sophie’s film and television experience includes roles in What Katy Did (MOW for Catalyst), The Unicorn’s Secret (NBC Miniseries), Code Name: Eternity (Warner Bros./Protocol), Universal Soldier (MOW/Catalyst), Real Kids, Real Adventures (Discovery Channel), Goosebumps (Scholastic/Protocol), The Mighty (Miramax), The Clinic (MOW/Showtime), Mother’s Day (ABC/MOW) and Sneaking (Ryerson Student Film). In theatre she has appeared in Souled Out for Kids in Action.

Sophie has a wide and diverse range of interests. “I love dancing, both modern and ballet, music, singing, playing piano, violin and guitar but I am passionate about clothes and dress design. I also love to ride”.

Stevie is passionate about horses and she has an unusual fashion style. I love clothes and design but my style wouldn’t be the same as hers. She is quite independent and so am I. Stevie is outgoing whereas I am a little shy at first until I get to know people.

The Saddle Club™ series stars three heroines, Stevie, Carole and Lisa, who form The Saddle Club™ at the Pine Hollow Stables. Each character has a distinctly different personality but all share an equal love of horses and a strong loyalty to each other.
